About Neil

I feel like I've been around flight sim since it all began. In fact, I think I have.

Many people think it all started with Bruce Artwick, but it didn't. I remember a programme called Flight by a company called Psion for the Spectrum 48K. It came on cassette, ran at about two frames a second on a green screen, and it was brill because it was all we had.

I have carried on with the journey ever since, moving onto the Sublogic scenery on the Commodore computer with its add-on scenery disks. Next was the Amiga, which gave us ‘real’ sound instead of the constant buzzing. Then came personal computers, which I have stayed with through all the many upgrades over the years up to today. Flight sim has evolved like technology has, and now we have the latest of it: MSFS 2020 and now MSFS 2024.

I have to mention what really started my love of farm strip flying, and that was Bryan Lockyear's book Farm Strips and Private Airfields Flight Guide. Reading through that book really excited me and I just wanted to create these fields so people could enjoy them. As I began, I got in touch with Bryan and we became good friends until his death a few years ago.

So I hope you enjoy them, and remember the love and hard work Bryan put into his book.

The majority of my airfields are artistic licence, made to enhance your enjoyment. I take my hat off to the pilots that flew to these fields before the advent of GPS. Although I must admit, I still like using the stopwatch – it's much more satisfying.

I will carry on updating my files as long as I am able (I'm getting on a bit now). Who knows what the future will bring!

Have a look at the airstrip gallery, or send Neil a message if you'd like to ask him anything.
